Employment Opportunities

See our Worker Shares page for information on working in exchange for a CSA share.

For the 2011 season, we are seeking hardworking, eager to learn individuals for internships and a Crew Leader.  All positions begin in April and end in November.   Please read the entire page before submitting the application.

        • Crew Leader:
          • This is a full-time seasonal position beginning in April and ending mid-November.  Work days and hours are Monday through Friday, approximately 40-45hours per week and up to 50 hours during the peak season.  We typically begin the day at either 6:00 or 7:00 am depending on the time of the season, and end around 3:00 or 4:00.  We take a half hour to an hour lunch late morning or around Noon.  Breaks are taken as needed.
          • Type of  work:  The Crew Leader will lead, oversee, and work with interns, worker shares, and hourly field workers on a daily basis.  The Crew Leader assists the farmer in organizing daily tasks and sets and maintains the crew's pace in the field.  Other work includes field work and maintenance, planting, weeding, harvesting, washing, packing, and greenhouse work.  Managing time and quality control of the produce being harvested is expected.
          • Experience & Skills:  This is a leadership position and would be ideal for an experienced intern or someone who has worked in sustainable or organic farming.  Organization, communication, and good people skills are necessary.  Overall good health is important as the work is very physical.  Lifting will be part of the work and you must be able to lift 50 pounds.
          • Compensation:   This is a salaried position at $350 a week (subject to taxes).  In addition to this salary, a one week paid vacation (not to be taken in June, July, or August), farm produce including bread, and three lunches per week are included.
          • Housing:    Housing is not provided, but we can assist non-locals in finding suitable housing.

        • Internship:  Gain experience from hands-on learning.
          • An internship allows a more in depth involvement with the farm and the opportunity to learn by working.    This is a hands-on position to learn-by-doing on a working farm.   Gain skills and knowledge to strengthen future involvement in agriculture. Opportunities to attend CRAFT events are available.
          • Time commitment of approximately 7 to 8 months:  April 1st through mid-November.
          • A typical work week is 40-45 hours but can be longer during peak harvesting weeks. We strive to provide a consistent schedule but are dependent on weather.  Interns who can be somewhat flexible with their schedules are most likely to be hired.  We typically begin the day at either 6:00 or 7:00 am depending on the time of the season, and end around 3:00 or 4:00.  We take a half hour to an hour lunch late morning or around Noon.  Breaks are taken as needed.
          • Experience:  No experience necessary, only a williness to learn and work hard along with the farmers and the crew.
          • Housing:    We currently do not offer housing, but can assist the intern in finding suitable housing.
          • Food:    Farm produce including bread plus three lunches per week will be provided.
          • Stipend:    Monthly stipend of  $800 per month.
          • Are you right for the job?:    Because the right fit is so important for our season, there will be a one month trial period at the beginning of your internship, at the end of which either you or the farm may terminate the internship.  Within that month's time we will meet to discuss how things are going.

Applicants should expect to work outside in all weather conditions.   There may be times when work hours vary due to weather.

Qualified applicants should be ready for leadership responsibilities, organized, flexible, and able to work well with a diverse group of people.

We are in search of individuals who are hard-working, reliable, able to work independently, and able to stay on through the agreed upon dates.  We also appreciate fun individuals with an easy going nature that have a good sense of humor.  They must also have a good sense of humor.

We are currently accepting applicants now until all positions are filled.  Most positions are filled by mid-March, so send us your inquiries now.

Still Interested?:    If interested and qualified, please send an email of interest (or cover letter if using post mail), along with the completed application, or your resume, via email to the farm.  This application is an opportunity for both you and the farmers to determine if your expectations are a good match for our farm.
